The most exciting game of round 7 in the Liga Betclic took place in Povoa. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Povoa (2-5) to fifth ranked Sporting (5-2) 68-66 on Saturday evening. Sporting dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Povoa‘s 24. They outrebounded Povoa 48-33 including 36 on the defensive glass. The former international point guard Diogo Ventura (193-1994, agency: Promo Sport ID) fired 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American forward Isaiah Armwood (206-1990, college: GWU) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Shiloh Robinson (203-2001, college: Liberty, agency: Helping Ballers) produced 10 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sporting moved-up to third place, which they share with Ovarense. Povoa at the other side dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Queluz. Sporting is looking forward to face Galomar (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Povoa will play against Vitoria SC in Guimaraes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ovarense. Worth to mention a great performance of American Trey Drechsel (198-1996, college: GCU, agency: Worldwide SM) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Aaron Broussard contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American guard Antonio Woods (185-1995, college: Pennsylvania) answered with 18 points, 9 assists and 6 steals for Ovarense. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Benfica have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Ovarense at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Sporting. Benfica will play against Galitos-Barreiro (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ovarense will play against Oliveirense (#5) in Oliveira and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Imortal (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 100-91 loss to seventh ranked Esgueira (4-3) in Esgueira on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Ty Toney who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points and 5 assists. At the losing side Moses Flowers responded with 23 points and 7 assists. Imortal’s coach Bernardo Pires rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Esgueira moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Oliveirense. Imortal lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Esgueira will meet league’s second-placed FC Porto on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Imortal will play against Queluz (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Other games of round 7 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
FC Porto defeated Galomar in a road game 80-66. Galitos-Barreiro was beaten by Vitoria SC at home 70-71. Oliveirense lost to Queluz on the opponent’s court 99-109.

Galomar – FC Porto 66-80
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Galomar (1-6) was defeated at home by second ranked FC Porto (6-1) 80-66 on Saturday. It was a great evening for American Devyn Marble (198-1992, college: Iowa) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points. American-Belizean power forward Phil Fayne II (206-1997, college: Illinois St.) helped adding 8 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Malcolm Drumwright (188-1995, college: Jax State) responded with 26 points and 4 assists and the other American import center Michael Durr (213-1998, college: UCF, agency: Worldwide SM) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for FC Porto. They maintain second place with 6-1 record behind leader Benfica. Galomar lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. FC Porto will meet at home Esgueira (#6) in the next round. Galomar will play against Sporting (#3) in Lisbon and hope to win that game.

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Vitoria SC (3-4) edged on the road 6th ranked Galitos-Barreiro (3-4) 71-70 on Saturday. It was a great evening for international center Ricardo Monteiro (208-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. American center Trey Moses (208-1997, college: Ball St., agency: One Motive Sports) helped adding 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Vitoria SC players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Elijah McCadden (193-1999, college: Memphis) responded with 24 points and the other American import power forward Rog Stein (201-1999, college: Indiana Tech, agency: Promo Sport ID) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Vitoria SC moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Galitos-Barreiro. Vitoria SC will meet at home Povoa (#10) in the next round. Galitos-Barreiro will play against the league’s leader Benfica having rather not much hope for a victory.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Gregory Parham (193-1999, college: USA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 assists. His fellow American import forward Kavaughn Scott (201-1998, college: Loyola, MD) helped adding 27 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Deontae Hawkins (203-1993, college: Boston Coll.) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Cape Verdean Joao Embalo (201-2001, agency: Promo Sport ID) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds.
