The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Zenit-2 as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Zenit-2 smashed 10th ranked Irkut in Saint Petersburg 100-68. Zenit-2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Irkut helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was swingman Pavel Zemskiy (203-2004) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Center Egor Ryzhov (203-2004, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. Center Egor Vanin (215-2004, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with TSU and Dinamo. Irkut at the other side dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. Point guard Ilia Ermakov (191-2007) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 6 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Zakhar Lavrenov contributed with 18 points for the winners. Forward Alexander Maltsev (200-2002) answered with 14 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for Khimki. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CSKA-2 moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Novosybirsk. Khimki at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Barnaul. CSKA-2 will play against Lok.Kuban (#14) in Krasnodar in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Khimki will play on the road against Dinamo (#16) in Grozny and hopes to get back on the winning track.
