29-year old center Veljko Brkic (206-C-1995) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for KK Joker Sombor and receives a Hoops Agents Druga Liga Player of the Week award for round 8.
He had a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds, while his team beat Pelister (#9, 1-3) 93-84. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Thanks to this victory Joker moved-up to the 11th position in ABA League. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Joker already had a very good start winning all 4 without losing a single one. Brkic turned to be Joker‘s top player in his first season with the team. Brkic has impressive league stats. He is league’s best scorer averaging so far 21.8ppg and leads league in rebounds with 10.0rpg. Brkic is in league’s top in and averages solid 74.0% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Darko Planinic (212-C-1990, agency: Interperformances) of HKK Siroki Brijeg. He is Croatian center in his first season at Siroki. In the last game Planinic recorded an impressive double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Of course he led Siroki to another comfortable win 67-53 over slightly higher-ranked Podgorica (#10, 2-2) being unquestionably team leader. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Siroki dropped in the standings to 12th position. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Siroki managed to get this year. Planinic is a newcomer at Siroki and quickly became one of team’s most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Vuk Boskovic (200-G-2003) of Borac WWin Banja Luka (#15). Boskovic showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Borac, leading his team to a 87-69 easy win against slightly higher-ranked Sibenka (#14, 1-3). Borac needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 1 lost game. Boskovic has a very solid season. In 4 games in ABA League he scored 13.0ppg.
