The most exciting game of round 16 in the VTB-Youth League took place in Minsk. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Minsk (4-8) to seventh ranked Parma-2 (7-5) 83-80 on Thursday evening. Ivan Mironov (196-2006, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) fired 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Ivan Egorov (189-2005, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Forward Vitaly Duchko (197-2006) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Parma-2 have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Minsk keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Avtodor-2. Parma-2 are looking forward to face higher ranked Khimki-2 (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Minsk will play against Uralmash-2 (#12) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked MBA-2 (9-3) against thirteenth ranked Samara-2 (2-10) on Thursday night. Visiting MBA-2 was defeated by Samara-2 in a tough game in Samara 63-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of MBA-2. Worth to mention a great performance of center Ivan Kasyanov (205-2005) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Egor Amosov contributed with 17 points and 6 assists for the winners. Forward Georgiy Salagaev (200-2005) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for MBA-2. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Samara-2 moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Uralmash-2. MBA-2 at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Samara-2 will play against bottom-ranked Enisey-2 (#13) in Krasnoyarsk in the next round. MBA-2 will play on the road against Avtodor-2 (#8) in Saratov and hopes to get back on the winning track.

In the last two games of round 16 Uralmash-2 was defeated by Khimki-2 in a road game 84-66. Zenit-2 smashed Lokomotiv-2 at home 88-63.

Khimki-2 dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Uralmash-2‘s 32. Worth to mention a great performance of Arseniy Ivankov (193-2005) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Andrey Bovduy (200-2005) who added 11 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four Khimki-2 players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Matvey Reshetov (178-2005) responded with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and center Egor Nikishenko (203-2006) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Zenit-2 forced 22 Lokomotiv-2 turnovers and had a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zenit-2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Lokomotiv-2‘s players. Worth to mention a great performance of center Mikhail Presnyakov (205-2007) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard German Mucshinskiy (186-2005) who added 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side forward Daniil Chernin (199-2005) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds and Dinar Almyashev (197-2008) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second position with 11-3 record having just two point less than leader CSKA-Junior. Loser Lokomotiv-2 dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. Zenit-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lokomotiv-2 will play against the league’s leader CSKA-Junior (#1) in Moscow and hope to secure a win.
