It’s still too early stage of the Regular Season in BSL, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Efes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Efes defeated 8th ranked Mersin BBGSK in Istanbul 94-76. Anadolu Efes made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Daniel Oturu (208-1999, college: Minnesota) who scored 26 points. French Rodrigue Beaubois (189-1988) chipped in 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was British center Gabriel Olaseni (208-1991, college: Iowa) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Efes (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Tofas. Newly promoted Mersin BBGSK dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Mersin BBGSK will play next round against Galatasaray trying to get back on the winning streak. Anadolu Efes will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Fenerbahce. It will be extra interesting game as Fenerbahce is their local rival from Istanbul.
Another exciting game was played in Izmir between seventh ranked Turk Telekom and 8th ranked Petkimspor where Turk Telekom (4-2) beat Petkimspor (3-3) on the road 75-68. It was a good game for Colombian swingman Braian Angola-Rodas (198-1994, college: FSU) who led his team to a victory with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Anthony Brown contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. Turk Telekom’s coach Erdem Can allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Peyton Aldridge (203-1995, college: Davidson) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Petkimspor. Turk Telekom moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pinar Karsiyaka and Besiktas. Petkim at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Turk Telekom will play against bottom-ranked Manisa (#16) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Petkim will play against the league’s second-placed Tofas (#2) in Bursa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Besiktas (4-2) against eleventh ranked Galatasaray (3-3) on Saturday night. Host Besiktas was edged by Galatasaray in a tough game in Istanbul 88-91. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Besiktas. Otis Livingston II scored 31 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Derek Needham with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Galatasaray moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Besiktas dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Pinar Karsiyaka and Turk Telekom. Bahcesehir – Bursaspor 80-92
There was a minor upset in Istanbul where higher ranked Bahcesehir (3-3) was defeated by eleventh ranked Bursaspor (3-3) 92-80 on Sunday. French point guard David Michineau (191-1994) scored 23 points to lead the charge for the winners and swingman David Mutaf (197-2002, college: Minnesota) chipped in 24 points during the contest.
