The Regular Season in BBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of Bayern Muenchen against EnBW Ludwigsburg 78-70 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But Bayern won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Ezra Manjon (183-2000, college: Vanderbilt) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Hunter Maldonado (201-1999, college: Wyoming, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 14 points and 5 steals for the winners. The former international forward Niels Giffey (200-1991, college: UConn) answered with 16 points for Bayern Muenchen. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bayern will play next round against strong Hamburg trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Ludwigsburg will try to continue on its current victory against Braunschweig on the road.

International point guard Len Schoormann (192-2002) stepped up and scored 21 points and 4 assists for the winners and Justin Jaworski chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. At the losing side American forward Ryan Mikesell (201-1996, college: Dayton) responded with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. EWE Baskets will play against ALBA in Berlin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play at home against Vechta to get more than just one victory in their record.
An interesting game was also a 19-point tough home loss of Bamberg in a game versus undefeated Braunschweig 96-77. Luka Scuka nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Braunschweig’s coach Jesus Ramirez used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. KeyShawn Feazell came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds for Bamberg in the defeat. Braunschweig will meet at home Ludwigsburg in the next round. Bamberg will play against Frankfurt and hope to win that game.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Chemnitz was beaten by Bayern on the road 73-59. Weissenfels lost to Rostock on its own court 84-87. Bonn lost to Vechta in a road game 75-83. Goettingen lost to Frankfurt at home 72-100. Ulm defeated Chemnitz on the opponent’s court 90-86. Hamburg beat ALBA in a home game 97-80.



Bayern – Chemnitz 73-59

Bayern Muenchen used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Chemnitz 73-59 on Friday night. Bayern made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Chemnitz only scored two points from the stripe. Bayern forced 19 Chemnitz turnovers and outrebounded them 37-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. The former international power forward Oscar Da Silva (205-1998, college: Stanford) nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American power forward Devin Booker (205-1991, college: Clemson) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). South Sudanese-Canadian Aher Uguak (201-1998, college: Loyola, IL) came up with 11 points and American guard DeAndre Lansdowne (188-1989, college: Fort Lewis) added 10 points and 5 assists respectively for Chemnitz in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bayern Muenchen will meet at home Hamburg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chemnitz will have a break next round.

Five Weissenfels players scored in double figures. Seawolves will meet at home Goettingen in the next round which should be an easy win for them. MBC will play against Bonn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Center Johann Gruenloh (210-2005) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Joel-Sadu Aminu (193-1997) accounted for 17 points and 8 rebounds. Five Rasta Vechta players scored in double figures. American guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr (193-1998, college: Florida) came up with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and swingman Sam Griesel (200-2000, college: Nebraska) added 16 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!) respectively for Bonn in the defeat. Telekom Baskets’ coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Rasta Vechta will meet Heidelberg on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Telekom Baskets will play against Weissenfels and hope to win that game.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Skyliners will meet at home Bamberg in the next round which should be another easy win for them. BG Goettingen will play against Rostock and hope to win that game.
