The Regular Season in ProA U21 just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of ASVEL in Villeurbanne on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Le Mans 82-79. Le Mans made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 ASVEL turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by ASVEL helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Lois Grasshoff (199-2007) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Bastien Grasshoff (193-2007) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Yohann Sissoko (195-2006) answered with 22 points and 7 assists for ASVEL. ASVEL’s coach Mike Happio rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Le Mans is looking forward to face St-Quentin in Saint-Quentin in the next round which should be an easy win for them. ASVEL will play on the road against Bourg and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of Chalon/Saone against Strasbourg on Saturday night. Visiting Chalon/Saone was defeated by Strasbourg in Strasbourg 87-75. Guard Maxence Lemoine (187-2007) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 assists for the winners and Harold Tchoua chipped in 7 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side swingman Noah Badibanga (202-2006) responded with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Strasbourg will play against Monaco on the road in the next round. Chalon/Saone will play against Paris to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Gravelines between Gravelines and Paris. Gravelines got a very close home victory over Paris. Gravelines managed to escape with a 3-point win 77-74 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Evan Boisdur nailed 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Yssam Moungalla came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for Paris in the defeat. Paris’ coach Raphael Desroses tested ten players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Gravelines will meet at home Limoges in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Paris will play against Chalon/Saone and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Monaco smashed St-Quentin on the road 90-64. Winless Le Portel lost to defending champion Bourg on its own court 53-82. Nanterre managed to outperform Limoges in a road game 85-74. Nancy managed to beat La Rochelle at home 71-59.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 25 points and 10 rebounds by Iliam Fevry of Nancy.
ASVEL – Le Mans 79-82

St-Quentin – Monaco 64-90
But St-Quentin was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Monaco 90-64 on Saturday night. Monaco dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to St-Quentin‘s 40. Monaco forced 24 St-Quentin turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Golle Dembele (202) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side and guard Zakaria Mechergui (195-2006) accounted for 16 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Five Monaco players scored in double figures. Naturalized Algerian forward Mehdi Bouhmama (196-2004) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and center Djiguiba Traore (203-2005) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for St-Quentin in the defeat. Monaco will meet at home Strasbourg in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. St-Quentin will play against Le Mans and hope to win that game.

A very close game took place in Gravelines between Gravelines and Paris. Gravelines got a very close home victory over Paris. Le Portel – Bourg 53-82
But Le Portel was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Bourg 82-53 on Saturday night. Bourg forced 20 Le Portel turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Bourg especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Le Portel‘s players. Belgian power forward Ayuba Bryant (204-2005) nailed 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and guard Leon Sifferlin (196-2008) accounted for 13 points and 5 assists. Center Izan Le Meut (210-2004) came up with 9 points and 11 rebounds and Harouna Sangare added 15 points respectively for Le Portel in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bourg will meet at home ASVEL in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Le Portel will play against Nanterre and hope to win that game.
