The Regular Season in TBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The biggest surprise of round 1 in TBL took place in Kocaeli where host Cayirova crushed Anka Spor 86-59 on Saturday evening. Cayirova dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Anka Spor‘s 26. Cayirova looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cayirova made 8 blocks. Point guard Eray Aydogan (185-2000) fired 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Mehmet Oguzhan Kizil (-1996) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Cayirova’s coach Engin Gencoglu felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Kaan Onat (195-2007) produced 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Anka Spor will play next round against Ormanspor trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Cayirova will try to continue on its current victory against Erokspor in Istanbul.
Balikesir BBS defeated Final Spor at home 77-65. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Luwane Pipkins (179-1996, college: Providence) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Eray Buyukcangaz contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Tyrece Radford (188-1999, college: Texas A&M) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for Final Spor. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Final Spor will play next round against Fenerbahce 2 trying to get back on the winning streak. Balikesir BBS will try to continue on its current victory against Bordo. It will be extra interesting game as Bordo is their local rival from Balikesir.

Fenerbahce used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Konya 75-73 on Saturday night. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Ben Shungu (188-1997, college: Vermont) stepped up and scored 23 points and 7 assists for the winners and center Amari Kelly (206-1999, college: GMU) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Fenerbahce’s coach Ertug Tuzcukaya used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side guard New Williams (185-1996, college: Fresno St.) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and forward Khalid Thomas (208-1999, college: Portland St.) scored 15 points. Fenerbahce will meet Final Spor in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Konya BBSK will play against Cagdas BS and hope to win that game.

There was a surprise result in Istanbul where Haremspor smashed Erokspor 86-64 on Saturday. American guard Jordan Johnson (180-1995, college: UNLV) stepped up and scored 20 points for the winners and guard Kerem Ozel (183-1997) chipped in 12 points and 6 assists. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side forward Berkay Bayar (196-1999) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and guard Huseyin Kandemir (196-1995) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Erokspor’s coach Ilker Salman gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Haremspor will meet at home Trabzonspor in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Erokspor will play against Cayirova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
