The most exciting game of round 26 in the 1Liga took place in Walbrzych. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers AZS PO (16-8) to third ranked Gornik (19-6) 76-75 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of AZS PO. Gornik dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to AZS PO’s 26. They outrebounded AZS PO 47-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. The former international center Piotr Niedzwiedzki (210-1993) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. Hubert Pabian (201-1989) contributed with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Swingman Dominik Rutkowski (194-1998) replied with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for AZS PO. Gornik maintains third position with 19-6 record having just one point less than leader Lancut. AZS PO at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Gornik are looking forward to face Dziki (#10) in Warszawa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. AZS PO will play at home against the league’s second-placed Kotwica (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Wroclaw. Twelfth ranked Krosno (10-14) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked Slask (12-12) 83-82 on Tuesday evening. Guard Roman Janik (184-1995) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Damian Ciesielski chipped in 16 points during the contest. point guard Kacper Gordon (184-2002) responded with 19 points and 9 assists. Krosno maintains twelfth position with 10-14 record. Slask at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. They share the position with WKK Wroclaw and Lublin 2. Krosno will play against Zak (#14) in Koszalin in the next round. Slask’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Wroclaw WKK Wroclaw.
Sixteenth-ranked Znicz (6-17) was very close to win a game against ninth ranked Slask (12-12) in Wroclaw on Friday. Slask managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected much easier game. Sebastian Bozenko notched 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists to lead the effort. Even 31 points and 6 assists by Szymon Walczak did not help to save the game for Znicz. Znicz’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Slask moved-up to seventh place, which they share with WKK Wroclaw and Lublin 2. Loser Znicz keeps the sixteenth position with 17 games lost. Slask’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Wroclaw WKK Wroclaw.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 26: bottom-ranked Zgorzelec was beaten by WKK Wroclaw on the road 85-79. Koszalin lost to Pelplin on its own court 62-76. Krosno unfortunately lost to Krakow in a road game 64-76. Kolobrzeg managed to beat Lublin 2 at home 81-65. Lowicz defeated Tychy on the opponent’s court 99-87.
WKK Wroclaw – Zgorzelec 85-79
No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked WKK Wroclaw (12-12) beat at home bottom-ranked Turow (3-20) 85-79 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. WKK Wroclaw made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Naturalized Canadian forward Nick Madray (206-1994, college: Wagner) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Tomasz Ochonko (183-1986, agency: BIG) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 21 points by power forward Mateusz Stawiak (203-1996) did not help to save the game for Turow. Point guard Adrian Kordalski (185-1995) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the guests. Five WKK Wroclaw and four Turow players scored in double figures. Turow’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. WKK Wroclaw moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Slask 2 and Lublin 2. Newly promoted Turow stay dead last with 20 lost games. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 13th ranked Zak (9-15) lost to fourteenth ranked Pelplin (9-15) in Koszalin 62-76 on Saturday. Pelplin outrebounded Zak 36-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. Swingman Hubert Wyszkowski (197-1999) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Mateusz Kaszowski (181-2001) supported him with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals by guard Marcin Tomaszewski (193-1998) did not help to save the game for Zak. The former international swingman Jakub Dloniak (194-1983) added 15 points for the hosts. Pelplin moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Koszalin. Zak lost third consecutive game. There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Ksiezak (6-16) defeated on the road higher ranked Tychy (15-10) 99-87 on Saturday. Ksiezak made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Arkadiusz Kobus (196-1986) notched 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Michal Jankowski (191-1987, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four Ksiezak players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by point guard Piotr Wieloch (182-1994) did not help to save the game for Tychy. Forward Patryk Stankowski (194-2000) added 15 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Tychy’s coach Tomasz Jagielka rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn’t help.
