The most exciting game of round 15 in the GBL took place in Athens. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked AEK (6-9) to fifth ranked Aris (8-7) 93-91 on Saturday evening. Aris made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Vasileios Toliopoulos (186-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 assists. American Ronnie Harrell Jr (201-1996, college: Denver) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Jordan McRae (197-1991, college: Tennessee) who recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aris maintains fifth place with 8-7 record. AEK lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Kolossos HH. Aris are looking forward to face Kolossos HH (#8) in Rodou in the next round. AEK will play on the road against Karditsas and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Promitheas (9-6) against fourth ranked Peristeri (9-6) on Saturday night. Host Promitheas was defeated by Peristeri in a tough game in Patras 75-81. It was a good game for American guard Kenny Williams III (193-1996, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Joe Ragland contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Hunter Hale (192-1997, college: Winthrop) answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Promitheas. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Peristeri moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Promitheas. Peristeri’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Maroussi.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Athens. Leader Panathinaikos faced second-best Olympiacos. Host Panathinaikos (15-0) defeated guests from Piraeus (13-2) 85-80. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Olympiacos. It was a great evening for Jerian Grant who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Nigel Williams-Goss with 16 points and 7 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Undefeated Panathinaikos have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-0 record. Defending champion Olympiacos keeps the second position with two games lost. Panathinaikos will meet bottom-ranked Apollon (#12) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Olympiacos will play against PAOK (#6) and hope to secure a win.

There was no surprise in Rodou where 12th ranked Apollon Patras (3-12) was crushed by ninth ranked Kolossos HH (6-9) 88-60 on Sunday. Kolossos HH outrebounded Apollon 35-21 including 29 on the defensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for Andrew Goudelock (191-1988, college: Charleston) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Guard London Perrantes (187-1994, college: Virginia) helped adding 8 points and 8 assists. Four Kolossos HH players scored in double figures. Kolossos HH’s coach Curro Segura felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was guard Justin Bibbs (196-1996, college: Virginia Tech) with 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and center Chad Brown (206-1996, college: UCF) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Kolossos HH moved-up to seventh place, which they share with AEK. Apollon at the other side stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Kolossos HH will meet higher ranked Aris (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Apollon will play against the league’s leader Panathinaikos (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for forward Justin Alston (203-1994, college: Boston U.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Andrew Harrison (198-1994, college: Kentucky) helped adding 15 points.
