The most exciting game of round 8 in the National League took place in Gan Ner. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked I.Nahariya (4-4) to seventh ranked H.Gilboa Galil (4-3) 84-82 on Friday evening. H.Gilboa Galil shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by I.Nahariya helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was point guard Daniel Gueta (188-2003) who scored 19 points, 9 assists and 5 steals. Guard Ziv Weissmann (192-2003, agency: BIG) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international center Alexey Chubrevich (212-1986) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. H.Gilboa Galil moved-up to fourth place, which they share with E.Netanya and H.Kfar Qasem. I.Nahariya at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. H.Gilboa Galil is looking forward to face league’s leader E.Ashkelon on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. I.Nahariya will have a break next round.

It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of M.Rehovot. Guard Eidan Alber (192-2000, agency: Avi Zilberman) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jonatan Mor contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American forward Josh Freund (204-1997, college: Roanoke) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for M.Rehovot. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. M.Raanana have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated M.Rehovot. M.Raanana will play against M.Ma’ale Adum. (#8) in Ma’ale Adumim in the next round where they are favorite. M.Rehovot will play at home against M.Haifa (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Worth to mention a great performance of Eliad Tal who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists. Efi Tyomkin responded with 22 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. E.Ashkelon maintains first position with 7-1 record. Newly promoted H.Kfar Qasem keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with H.Gilboa Galil and E.Netanya. E.Ashkelon will meet at home H.Gilboa Galil (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. H.Kfar Qasem will play against Ramat Hash. in Ramat Hasharon and hope to secure a win.

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked E.Shomron (3-5) was defeated at home by twelfth ranked M.Rishon (2-5) 87-75 on Tuesday. M.Rishon looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Shalev Lugashi (194-2001) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and the former international Raviv Pitshon (198-1989) who added 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Forward Aviv Shimoni (198-1996) responded with 23 points (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and naturalized Polish center Ido Flaisher (208-1998, college: Hawaii) scored 8 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. M.Rishon maintains twelfth position with 2-5 record. E.Shomron lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with Ramat Hash. and H.Safed Galil. M.Rishon will meet at home higher ranked H.Safed Galil (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. E.Shomron will play against E.Netanya and hope to secure a win.

Ramat Hash. looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Ofek Malka (181-2000) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and Hen Halfon (196-1996) who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Ramat Hash. players scored in double figures. American forward Brandon Bowman (206-1984, college: Georgetown) responded with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Ben Maman (195-2003) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. M.Haifa’s coach Offer Rahimi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Ramat Hash. moved-up to ninth place, which they share with H.Safed Galil and E.Shomron. M.Haifa lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Ramat Hash. will meet at home higher ranked H.Kfar Qasem (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
