Aliaga Petkimspor Izmir (BSL) inked 32-year old American 188cm point guard Markel Starks (college: Georgetown). Starks already started the season at MoraBanc Andorra in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 15 games he recorded 9.0ppg and 2.7apg.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014.
Starks is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eight different countries on three different continents (Europe, Australia and of course North America). Starks has played previously professionally in Australia (Cairns Taipans), Bosnia (Igokea), Germany (Skyliners), Greece (Koroivos), Italy (Cremona and Ferentino), Poland (Enea Zastal), Russia (Avtodor) and Turkey (Darussafaka Lassa and Fenerbahce).
Among many awards he won Turkish League championship title in 2022. He was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Polish League Honorable Mention back in 2019.
Starks graduated from Georgetown University in 2014 and it is his tenth season in pro basketball.
