Anthony Davis and his apparent distaste for Darvin Ham played a role in Ham’s dismissal, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Amick elaborated on the role Davis played in Ham’s firing during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
“When they chose to fire Darvin Ham, I was told that one of the many, many considerations was that it was pretty evident that AD was not on board anymore with Darvin and they know, like everybody else, that AD has a history of having asked for trades in the past,” Amick said.
“That’s how he got to the Lakers from New Orleans. Last thing they wanted was for AD to be frustrated with the situation and maybe have those types of thoughts cross his mind.”
Amick’s comments follow some pointed remarks from Davis after the Lakers’ Game 2 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.
Davis appeared to take a jab at Ham when he said, “We have stretches where we don’t know what we’re doing on both ends of the floor.”
Ham responded by saying he took Davis’ comments as a sign of frustration and that he would agree to disagree with his star big man.
The Lakers later fired Ham just days after they were eliminated from the postseason.
Now, JJ Redick is now considered the favorite to take his place, according to The Los Angeles Times.
