Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso, known for his tenacious defense, recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of winning the coveted Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award.
The 29-year-old player acknowledges that the award often favors frontcourt players who excel in categories such as blocks and rebounds.
In fact, the last two guards to win the DPOY were Gary Payton in 1996 and Marcus Smart in 2022.
“The way [Defensive Player of the Year] is kind of voted on and based off of now is the interior has the upper hand on that just because of blocks and rebounds,” Caruso said, per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.
“I probably don’t have enough of those to be under consideration. But you never know. I might have an incredible year.”
