Aleksej Pokusevski had hoped to suit up for Serbia at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but he’ll miss the event due to rehab from injury. Pokusevski is continuing to work his way back from a small fracture in his right humerus.
The Oklahoma City Thunder big man had hoped to play for the Serbian senior national team for the first time this summer, but that debut will have to wait. Pokusevski is expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp with the Thunder in late-September.
Serbia will be down several key players for the World Cup. In addition to Pokusevski, Nikola Jokic will not play, due to rest reasons after winning the 2023 NBA Finals. Vasilije Micic will sit out, as he transitions to the NBA for the upcoming season. Longtime Serbian national team members Nikola Kalinic and Vladimir Lucic are both out due to injuries.
