Adreian Payne was shot and killed early Monday morning in Orlando in his home. Payne was 31.
Around noon, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced it responded to a call at 1:37 a.m. of a man who had been shot. A suspect has been arrested on a first degree murder charge.
Payne was the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks after a four-year career at Michigan State. Payne played 107 NBA games over three seasons. Payne was released by the Orlando Magic in 2018 following an ESPN report about an alleged sexual assault involving Payne and Keith Appling during their freshman season at Michigan State. Prosecutors didn’t press charges and no further legal action was taken.
Appling then played in Europe for several teams.
