Kristaps Porzingis shares update on illness recovery

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis shared an update on his health with fans on social media Monday night.

“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet,” he posted on X/Twitter. “I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for the support and I’m hoping for a healthy return soon.”

The big man has missed six of the Celtics’ last seven games with an unknown illness. He suited up for Boston’s matchup with the Detroit Pistons on February 26 and didn’t look as sharp as usual. He hasn’t played since, but did make an appearance on the Celtics bench last Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

He was also out on the parquet getting a workout in before Saturday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

At the time, it seemed as if he would be ready to go, especially considering he said as much on Instagram the day before.

If I had to guess, whatever he’s dealing with got some sort of second wind. That, or he’s just caught two colds, one after another.

Porzingis has appeared in 32 games for the Celtics this season, playing about 28.9 minutes each time. He’s averaged 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and 40.3% form deep.
