The biggest surprise of round 18 was guest Academy‘s (#6) road victory over Tbilisi (#7) 80-71 on Monday evening. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 42-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Academy forced 20 Tbilisi turnovers and had a 33-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Academy looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Aleksandre Bachilava (177-2007) who scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Ilia Kurdadze (190-2008) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Kvirike Tvildiani (-2007) who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds. Academy maintains sixth position with 9-5 record. Tbilisi at the other side keeps the seventh place with six games lost. Academy are looking forward to face Telavi (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Tbilisi will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Overtime (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 120-65 loss to fifth ranked Kutaisi (11-4) in Kutaisi. It was a good game for Nikoloz Berekashvili (195-2007) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists. Saba Buadze contributed with 28 points (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners. Luka Luarsabishvili (192-2008) replied with 13 points and 7 rebounds for Overtime. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kutaisi maintains fifth position with 11-4 record. Overtime at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Kutaisi will play against higher ranked Orbi (#3) in Tbilisi in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
