The game in Chemnitz was quite interesting. 6th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (10-8) played at the court of seventh ranked Chemnitz (11-8). Finnish forward Olivier Nkamhoua (203-2000, college: Michigan) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Osun Osunniyi (208-1998, college: Iowa St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chemnitz moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Vechta. Heidelberg at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Chemnitz is looking forward to face league’s second-placed Bayern in Muenchen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Heidelberg will play at home against Oldenburg (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Rostock, where higher ranked Seawolves (10-9) lost at home to thirteenth ranked ALBA Berlin (9-10) 71-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Seawolves. It was a good game for naturalized New Zealand center Yannick Wetzell (206-1996, college: SDSU) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Matt Thomas contributed with 18 points for the winners. ALBA Berlin’s coach Israel Gonzalez used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard JeQuan Lewis (186-1994, college: VCU, agency: Inception Sports) answered with 23 points and 5 assists for Rostock. ALBA moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Oldenburg. Rostock at the other side dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with Wuerzburg. ALBA will play against Bamberg (#15) at home in the next round. Rostock will play against Bonn (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game took place in Weissenfels, where 4th placed Rasta Vechta (11-8) lost to tenth ranked MBC (10-10) in a road game 83-91 on Tuesday. Spencer Reaves stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) for the winners. The best for the losing side was Brandon Randolph with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Weissenfels maintains tenth place with 10-10 record. Loser Rasta Vechta dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Chemnitz. Weissenfels will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vechta will play against Goettingen (#17) and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 21 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Wuerzburg defeated Bamberg in a road game 98-93. Braunschweig beat Hamburg at home 91-79. Frankfurt lost to Bayern on the opponent’s court 56-70. Bottom-ranked Goettingen was outscored by Ulm in a home game 72-91. Bonn was rolled over Ludwigsburg on the road 81-61.


Bamberg – Wuerzburg 93-98

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Bamberg (8-12) was defeated at home by tenth ranked s Oliver Baskets (10-9) 98-93 on Wednesday. Wuerzburg made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Panamanian-Puerto Rican point guard Jhivvan Jackson (182-1998, college: UTSA) stepped up and scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and power forward Hannes Steinbach (206-2006) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American point guard Ronaldo Segu (183-1999, college: Buffalo) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 assists and the former international center Filip Stanic (206-1998) scored 9 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bamberg’s coach Anton Gavel rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help.
