The most exciting game of round 16 in the Winner League took place in Tel Aviv. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of much higher ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (13-3) to ninth ranked Hapoel Beer Sheva (7-9) 83-82 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. H.Be’er Sheva looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Panamanian guard Iverson Molinar (193-1999, college: MSU) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 5 assists and the former international Spencer Weisz (193-1995, college: Princeton) who added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international Tomer Ginat (204-1994, agency: Avi Zilberman) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. H.Be’er Sheva moved-up to seventh place, which they share with H.Gilboa Galil. H.Tel-Aviv at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. H.Be’er Sheva is looking forward to face higher ranked M.Ramat Gan (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. H.Tel-Aviv will play against H.Afula and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (12-4) against thirteenth ranked Kiryat Ata (5-11) on Sunday night. Visiting Hapoel Jerusalem was edged by Kiryat Ata in a tough game in Kiryat Ata 85-88. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Jerusalem. The winners were led by American guard Liam OReilly (188-1996, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: LHZ Sport Agency) who scored that evening 27 points and 5 assists and Silvio de Sousa supported him with 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Even 12 points and 9 assists by British-American guard Tarik Phillip (191-1993, college: WVU, agency: Diamond Sports) did not help to save the game for H.Jerusalem. Kiryat Ata moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with E.Netanya. H.Jerusalem at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Kiryat Ata will play against bottom-ranked H.Haifa (#14) at home in the next round. H.Jerusalem will play against H.Gilboa Galil (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv’s coach Oded Kattash used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Amin Stevens produced 25 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for lost side. Maccabi Tel-Aviv have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 14-2 record. Loser Ramat Gan keeps the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with H.Holon. M.Tel-Aviv will meet at home E.Netanya (#12) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. M.Ramat Gan will play against H.Be’er Sheva (#7) in Beer Sheva and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 16: H.Afula lost to H.Gilboa Galil on the opponent’s court 76-84. E.Netanya managed to outperform H.Haifa in a home game 78-75. I.Ness Ziona recorded a loss to H.Galil Elion on the road 77-65. H.Holon defeated Bnei Hertzeliya on its own court 84-71.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points and 8 rebounds by Mike Davis Jr of H.Holon.


H.Gilboa Galil – H.Afula 84-76

Everything could happen in Gan Ner at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked H.Gilboa Galil and 8th ranked Afula had identical 6-9 record.
