Anthony Davis was trolled by his wife, Marlen, after getting bailed out by Rui Hachimura during the Lakers-Kings game on Saturday night.
Davis, who is shooting free throws at 78.1 percent on the season, almost lost his team the game.
There was 12.1 seconds to go in the game and LA were clutching a 101-99 lead over Sacramento.
AD was awarded two free throws and a chance to seal the game when he got fouled on a jumper in the final minutes.
He missed both.
But, Rui Hachimura saved the game by batting the second miss to Austin Reaves, who afterwards knocked down both of his free throws.
After the game, Davis didn’t seem perturbed by the misses and shared the story of his wife’s troll.
“Nah, I don’t want to say I’m frustrated because I liked both of them,” Davis said. “Both were in and out. I feel like I didn’t shoot any differently. They weren’t bad where I like completely missed left, short, right or long. Both were in and out.
“But I definitely appreciate Rui with the tip out. My wife even called me and said ‘Rui saved you.’ That made me feel, like, worse. Whose side you on? But at the end of the day, Rui got the tip out, AR knocked down two and we were able to seal the victory.”
Despite his respectable free throw percentage this season, the big man has gone 6-for-16 shooting on clutch free throws this season.
But, it doesn’t appear that head coach JJ Redick will be making any drastic changes.
“I think that as a player, that stuff can weigh on you,” Redick said. “I trust him. I believe in him. He’ll be in those situations again and I’m confident he’s gonna make the shot. This and the Orlando game, I’m not deterred in terms of having the basketball in his hands with under 30 seconds.”
