Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Armann as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Armann defeated 12th ranked Selfoss in Reykjavik 99-86. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 61-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Armann dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Selfoss‘ 46. They outrebounded Selfoss 51-39 including 40 on the defensive glass. Armann looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American Zach Naylor (203-1998, college: Tarleton St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists and Danish guard Adama Darboe (190-1986) who added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 17 assists during the contest. American swingman Follie Bogan (193-2000, college: Milligan) responded with 29 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Armann have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Sindri. Selfoss lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with six games lost. Selfoss will play next round against KFG trying to get back on the winning streak. Armann will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Sindri in Hofn.
Important game to mention about took place in Reykjavik. Second ranked Sindri (7-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked Fjolnir (3-5) 106-104 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The winners were led by forward Gisli Hallsson (190-1999) who scored that evening 37 points (!!!) and Francois Matip supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field) by Canadian power forward Lewis Diankulu (201-1995, college: Queens, NC) did not help to save the game for Fjolnir. Fjolnir’s coach Borche Ilievski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Sindri have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Armann. Fjolnir at the other side keeps the eighth place with five games lost. They share the position with Skallagrimur. Sindri will play against league’s leader Armann in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fjolnir will play on the road against IA (#5) in Akranes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked IA (5-3) against fourth ranked Hamar (5-3) on Thursday night. Visiting IA was defeated by Hamar in a tough game in Hamar 88-96. Hamar will meet Thor (#7) in the next round. IA will play against Fjolnir (#8) and hope to secure a win.
There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Skallagrimur lost to KV on the opponent’s court 83-87. Breidablik unfortunately lost to Thor in a home game 82-88. Bottom-ranked Snaefell managed to beat KFG on the road 100-85.
