VTB-Youth League top team – CSKA-Junior (13-1) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat seventh ranked Lokomotiv-2 (6-6) in Moscow 85-71. CSKA-Junior dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Lokomotiv-2‘s 30. 32 personal fouls committed by Lokomotiv-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Nikolay Sadikov (194-2005) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 8 assists. Center Daniil Abramov (205-2006) contributed with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. CSKA-Junior’s coach Alexandr Gusev used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rustam Gagkaev (198-2005) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for Lokomotiv-2. CSKA-Junior have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. Lokomotiv-2 lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with six games lost. CSKA-Junior will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lokomotiv-2 will play at home against Khimki-2 (#4) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
The game in Saratov supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked MBA-2 (11-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Avtodor-2 (4-10). MBA-2 smashed Avtodor-2 92-48. Forward Georgiy Salagaev (200-2005) scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Timofey Shikalov chipped in 14 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was Rinat Gafiev (197-2005) with 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. MBA-2 moved-up to second place, which they share with Zenit-2. Avtodor-2 at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Samara-2. MBA-2 will play against UNICS-2 (#11) in Kazan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Avtodor-2 will have a break next round.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 18: bottom-ranked Enisey-2 was smashed by Samara-2 on the road 86-60. Minsk won against Uralmash-2 on its own court 67-55. Parma-2 unfortunately lost to Khimki-2 in a road game 67-81. N.Novgorod-2 managed to beat UNICS-2 at home 91-79.
The most impressive performance of 18th round was 23 points and 8 rebounds by Andrey Shportun of N.Novgorod-2.
Avtodor-2 – MBA-2 48-92
