It’s still too early stage of the Regular Season in Segunda FEB, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Algeciras (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 58-56 loss to twelfth ranked Zornotza (2-3) in Amorebieta-Echano on Saturday evening. Alejandro Mazaira stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. David Efambe responded with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zornotza moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Algeciras still closes the standings with five games lost. Zornotza will meet Huesca (#9) on the road in the next round. Algeciras will play against Huelva CD (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Other games of round 5 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Sol Girones was crushed by Gran Canaria 2 in Las Palmas 97-77. Albacete was beaten by Caceres at home 52-66. Huesca lost to Cordoba CB on the opponent’s court 78-87. Huelva CD managed to outperform Ponferrada in a home game 77-68. Archena recorded a loss to Clavijo on the road 84-70.

Gran Canaria 2 – Sol Girones 97-77

There was a minor upset in Las Palmas where 5th ranked Sol Girones (3-2) was crushed by seventh ranked Gran Canaria 2 (3-2) 97-77 on Saturday. Gran Canaria 2 outrebounded Sol Girones 43-32 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gran Canaria 2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Argentinian guard Dylan Bordon (190-2004) stepped up and scored 25 points, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Senegalese center Massamba Diop (210-2005) chipped in 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Gambian center Lamin Dibba (208-1997) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Xavier Torrent (178-1990) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Four Sol Girones players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gran Canaria 2 moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Sol Girones. Gran Canaria 2 will meet league’s second-placed Prat on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sol Girones will play against Sant Antoni and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
