Diante Watkins

Experienced American Diante Watkins (175-PG-1990, agency: BIG) put on an amazing game in the last round for league’s second-best Cayirova Belediye Kocaeli and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents TBL Player of the Week award for round 7.
The 34-year old playmaker got a double-double of 39 points and 11 assists, while his team beat Balikesir BBS (#17, 2-5) 107-92. Cayirova maintains the 2nd position in Turkish TBL. They are still close to the very top. Cayirova would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 6-1 record. In the team’s last game Watkins had a remarkable seven three-pointers out of 13 attempts. It’s his second year at Cayirova and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Robert Morris University Illinois graduate has very impressive stats this year. Watkins is league’s best scorer averaging so far 27.3ppg. Watkins is in league’s top in assists (6th best: 6.9apg) and averages solid 52.5% FGP and 43.5% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young American forward Dischon Thomas (206-F-2000) of Kapakli Spor Tekirdag. Thomas impressed basketball fans with 36 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. It was enough for Kapakli Spor to edge TED Ankara (3-4) by 1 point 88-87. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Kapakli Spor managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 12th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 3-4 record. Thomas is a newcomer at Kapakli Spor and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.6ppg (#6). He also registered 10.4 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was American Ty Gordon (185-PG-1998) of Trabzonspor Medical Park Basketbol (#16). Gordon got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for ten rebounds and four assists. He was a key player of Trabzonspor, leading his team to a 89-77 win against the higher-ranked Sigortam.net (#4, 5-2). Gordon has a great season in Turkey. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 23.8ppg (2nd best). He also has a FGP of 62.0% and 3PT: 40.5%.
