Ex-college assistant Emanuel Book Richardson is Pro Development Institute coach in Urbana

Former college basketball assistant coach Emanuel “Book” Richardson was named earlier this year as head coach at Pro Development Institute prep school in Urbana, Ohio.

Richardson thanked Jeff Goodman with a tweet Saturday mentioning Richardson’s move to coaching at the school on the former campus of Urbana University, north of Springfield, Ohio. Richardson previously was director of the New York Gauchos boys’ basketball program.

Richardson worked as an assistant coach for Sean Miller at Xavier from 2007 to 2009 and at Arizona from 2009 to 2017, when Richardson was arrested and charged with multiple counts of bribery and fraud as part of an FBI investigation into college hoops corruption.

Richardson, who pled guilty in Jan. 2019 to a bribery charge and served three months in prison, told ESPN in 2022 that he wishes Miller well at Xavier but added that the two haven’t had a real conversation in five years.
