Celtics, Sam Hauser agree to four-year, $45 million extension

That’s the final infinity stone.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, Sam Hauser has signed a four-year, $45 million extension to stay with the Celtics through 2029. All seasons are fully guaranteed.

To put the 26-year-old sharpshooter’s new deal in perspective, Klay Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks and Buddy Hield got four years at $38 million from the Golden State Warriors.

Hauser went from developmental success story starting out in Maine to key cog in Boston’s top-8 rotation in the Finals. He shot 42.4% from behind the arc last season, including 11-of-23 in June paired with lockdown defense on Luka Doncic.

As Woj notes, when Hauser’s new contract kicks in in 2025-2026, ownership will be staring at a projected cap sheet of “$225 million with an additional $210 million luxury tax penalty.” That includes the extensions for Derrick White and Jayson Tatum, too. With the eventual sale of the team on the horizon, those second apron concerns could become an issue down the road.

Nonetheless, it appears the Celtics are not just running it back next season, but locking in their championship team for the long term.
