An interesting game for Bayern Muenchen (26-5) which hosted in Muenchen second-ranked ALBA Berlin (24-7). First ranked Bayern Muenchen had an easy win 77-53. Bayern had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bayern made 7 blocks. The former international Jan Wimberg (206-1996) orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points and 5 rebounds. The former international forward Niels Giffey (200-1991, college: UConn) contributed with 8 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American Matt Thomas (195-1994, college: Iowa St.) replied with 12 points for ALBA. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bayern Muenchen have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-5 record. ALBA at the other side keeps the second place with seven games lost. Bayern are looking forward to face Ludwigsburg (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ALBA will play against Bonn (#7) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Bonn was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked s Oliver Baskets (23-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Telekom Baskets (19-13). s Oliver Baskets managed to secure a 9-point victory 100-91. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Telekom Baskets. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Isaiah Washington (185-1998, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 assists and Otis Livingston II who added 24 points and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. American point guard Glynn Watson Jr (183-1997, college: Nebraska) responded with 22 points and 5 assists. Telekom Baskets’ coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. s Oliver Baskets have a solid three-game winning streak. Wuerzburg maintains fourth position with 23-9 record. Bonn at the other side keeps the seventh place with 13 games lost. Wuerzburg will play against Heidelberg (#16) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bonn will play against the league’s second-placed ALBA (#2) in Berlin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Weissenfels between MBC and EnBW Ludwigsburg. Fourteenth ranked MBC (10-22) got a very close home victory over higher ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (18-14). MBC managed to escape with a 1-point win 91-90 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The winners were led by Johnathan Stove who scored that evening 28 points. Even 16 points and 8 rebounds by Jeff Roberson did not help to save the game for Ludwigsburg. EnBW Ludwigsburg’s coach tried various players’ combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Weissenfels moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Goettingen. Loser EnBW Ludwigsburg keeps the eighth position with 14 games lost. Weissenfels will meet Goettingen (#14) on the road in the next round. Ludwigsburg will play against the league’s leader Bayern (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 32: Bamberg smashed Crailsheim on the road 109-82. Hamburg lost to Chemnitz on its own court 79-85. Ulm managed to outperform Heidelberg in a road game 73-57. Oldenburg managed to beat Tuebingen at home 79-63. Rostock was defeated by Braunschweig on the opponent’s court 76-70. Vechta beat Goettingen in a home game 81-75.
The most impressive performance of 32th round was 23 points and 7 assists by Tommy Kuhse of Vechta.
Bonn – Wuerzburg 91-100
The game in Bonn was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked s Oliver Baskets (23-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Telekom Baskets (19-13). s Oliver Baskets managed to secure a 9-point victory 100-91. French guard Leo Westermann (198-1992) added 12 points and 7 assists for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
