At his annual All-Star Weekend media availability, NBA commissioner Adam Silver was asked if it is time to sever the link between NBA awards and Designated Player (so-called Super Max) contracts. The context was related to some players being vocal with their displeasure about the new 65-game rule to be eligible for various NBA awards.
Silver said he’s unsure if it is time to disconnect the awards from the contracts. He said that’s something that will have to be discussed with the NBPA.
Silver did note that this season games played are up and injuries are down. He stopped short of saying that was due to the 65-game rule, but Silver said it was an interesting datapoint.
