Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

GBL top team – Panathinaikos (16-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed twelfth ranked Apollon Patras (3-13) 87-55. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Apollon Patras‘s 30. They outrebounded Apollon 42-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman Panagiotis Kalaitzakis (197-1999) who helped to win the game recording 18 points. American Kendrick Nunn (190-1995, college: Oakland, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. American center Chad Brown (206-1996, college: UCF) replied with 15 points and 6 rebounds for Apollon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Panathinaikos have an impressive 16-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-0 record. Apollon at the other side stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face Aris (#5) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Apollon will play on the road against PAOK (#7) in Thessaloniki and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Promitheas (9-7) and Lavrio (5-11), which took place in Lavrio. Higher ranked Promitheas lost to eleventh ranked Lavrio in a road game 84-89. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Kostas Gontikas (206-1994, college: New York U.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and Vasilis Mouratos who added 17 points and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward DeShawn Stephens (203-1989, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lavrio moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Maroussi and Karditsas. Promitheas at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Aris. Lavrio will play against Maroussi (#10) in Athens in the next round. Promitheas will play at home against the league’s second-placed Olympiacos (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Peristeri (#3) and Maroussi (#9). Peristeri (10-6) smashed visiting Maroussi (5-11) by 23 points 95-72. The winners were led by Joe Ragland who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Peristeri’s coach Vassilis Spanoulis felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by Miroslav Raduljica did not help to save the game for Maroussi. Peristeri have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 10-6 record having six points less than leader Panathinaikos. Maroussi lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Lavrio and Karditsas. Peristeri will meet at home Karditsas (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Maroussi will play against Lavrio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Kolossos HH was beaten by Aris on the road 98-91. Karditsas lost to AEK on its own court 86-95. PAOK unfortunately lost to Olympiacos in Piraeus 62-77.

The winners were led by Latvian forward Roberts Blumbergs (208-1998, college: GCU) who scored that evening 20 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Kris Bankston (206-1999, college: Norfolk St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Even 21 points by American Andrew Goudelock (191-1988, college: Charleston) did not help to save the game for Kolossos HH. Rather expected game when 10th ranked Karditsas (5-11) lost at home to seventh ranked AEK (7-9) 95-86 on Saturday. AEK made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. AEK outrebounded Karditsas 39-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by the former international Ioannis Kouzeloglou (206-1995) who scored that evening 20 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Justin Tillman (203-1996, college: VCU) supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Even 15 points by guard Nikos Diplaros (189-1997) did not help to save the game for Karditsas.
