GBL is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Peristeri (#7) and AEK (#6). Peristeri (6-5) won against visiting AEK (5-6) 89-78. Peristeri looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Canadian point guard Elijah Mitrou-Long (185-1996, college: UNLV) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 4 assists. The former international forward Leonidas Kaselakis (200-1990) helped adding 17 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian power forward Mfiondu Kabengele (207-1997, college: FSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Peristeri moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Aris and PAOK. AEK at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Peristeri is looking forward to face Kolossos HH (#10) in Rodou in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. AEK will play on the road against Lavrio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Patras. 3rd placed host Promitheas (7-4) lost to leader Panathinaikos (11-0) 69-54. It was an exceptional evening for American Kendrick Nunn (190-1995, college: Oakland, agency: Octagon Europe) who led the winners and scored 15 points and 4 assists. Juancho Hernangomez accounted for 13 points. Panathinaikos’ coach Ergin Ataman used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Chris Coffey (201-1997, college: Georgetown, KY, agency: One Motive Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds for Promitheas in the defeat. Undefeated Panathinaikos have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-0 record. Promitheas at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Panathinaikos’ supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Maroussi.
Twelfth-ranked Karditsas (1-10) gave a tough game to seventh ranked PAOK (6-5) in Thessaloniki on Saturday. PAOK managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Andrew Harrison who scored 20 points and 4 steals. Romello White produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. PAOK moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Peristeri and Aris. Karditsas lost their third game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. PAOK will meet higher ranked Promitheas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Karditsas will play against Apollon (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 11: Aris lost to Lavrio on the opponent’s court 86-91. Maroussi managed to outperform Kolossos HH in a home game 85-74. Apollon was rolled over Olympiacos on the road 84-65.
Lavrio – Aris 91-86
There was an upset when 4th placed Aris (6-5) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Lavrio (4-7) 91-86 on Saturday. Lavrio outrebounded Aris 45-31 including 34 on the defensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Khalid Moore (201-2000, college: Fordham) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard David DeJulius (183-1999, college: Cincinnati) chipped in 25 points. Guard Roberto Gallinat (191-1996, college: Pacific, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 25 points and Ronnie Harrell Jr (201-1996, college: Denver) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Lavrio and four Aris players scored in double figures. Aris’ coach Ioannis Kastritis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Lavrio moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Maroussi and Kolossos HH. Loser Aris keeps the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Peristeri and PAOK. Lavrio will meet at home higher ranked AEK (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aris will play against the league’s second-placed Olympiacos and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Not a big story in a game in Piraeus where 11th ranked Apollon Patras (2-9) was rolled over by second ranked Olympiacos (10-1) 84-65 on Sunday. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian center Nikola Milutinov (213-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American Alec Peters (206-1995, college: Valpo) chipped in 20 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Olympiacos’ coach Georgios Bartzokas let to play all 12 players saving starting five for next games. American guard Desi Washington (188-1992, college: St.Peter’s) produced 14 points and the other American import center Chad Brown (206-1996, college: UCF) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Olympiacos. Defending champion maintains second place with 10-1 record behind leader Panathinaikos.
