There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in SBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 30 in the SBL took place in Boncourt. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Boncourt (12-18) to fifth ranked Neuchatel (15-14) 74-71 on Wednesday evening. Grenadian center Arkim Robertson (208-1994, college: CS Fullerton) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Dalan Ancrum (198-1996, college: W.Illinois) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Neuchatel’s coach Mitar Trivunovic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Nigerian power forward Martins Igbanu (203-1997, college: Tulsa) with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Neuchatel maintains fifth position with 15-14 record. Boncourt at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 18 games lost. Neuchatel are looking forward to face Nyon (#9) at home in the next round. Boncourt will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Vevey. One of their biggest challengers host Vevey Riviera (19-10) lost to second ranked Fribourg (25-4) 71-57. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vevey Riviera. American forward Antonio Ballard (194-1988, college: Miami, OH) notched a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Boris Mbala supported him with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Fribourg’s coach Petar Aleksic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 19 points and 5 assists by American point guard Malik Johnson (178-1997, college: Canisius) did not help to save the game for Vevey Riviera. Fribourg have an impressive 14-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 25-4 record behind leader Massagno. Newly promoted Vevey Riviera keeps the third place with ten games lost. Fribourg will play against league’s leader Massagno at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vevey Riviera will play against Monthey and hopes to get back on the winning track.
SBL top team – Massagno (26-3) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Swiss Central (4-25) 102-84. The best player for the winners was Marko Mladjan who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Trevion Lamar who recorded 30 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Massagno have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-3 record. Loser Swiss Central stay dead last with 25 lost games. Massagno will meet league’s second-placed Fribourg on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Swiss Central will play against Starwings (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 30 Monthey lost to Nyon on the opponent’s court 72-79. Geneve outscored Starwings in a home game 111-78.


Nyon – Monthey 79-72

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Monthey (11-18) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Nyon (11-18) 79-72 on Wednesday. Nyon made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was DeVante Brooks (198, college: S.Arkansas, agency: Players Group) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Guard Colin Dougherty (193-1996, college: Hobart) chipped in 22 points. Four Nyon players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Markel Humphrey (198-1987, college: Marshall) who recorded 19 points and 9 rebounds and guard Jay Jay Chandler III (193-1998, college: USA) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Monthey’s coach Patrick Pembele rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Nyon moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Monthey. Monthey lost fifth consecutive game. Nyon will meet higher ranked Neuchatel (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Monthey will play against Vevey Riviera and hope to secure a win.

Geneve – Starwings 111-78

Very predictable result when fourth ranked Geneve (18-11) smashed at home 10th ranked Starwings (7-22) 111-78 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Starwings 46-25 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Geneve looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Starwings’ players. The best player for the winners was American-Argentinian Erik Thomas (195-1995, college: New Orleans) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Montenegrin forward Slobodan Miljanic (199-1990, college: Lynn) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Geneve players scored in double figures. Geneve’s coach Dragan Andrejevic felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian-American power forward TK Edogi (203-1994, college: Iona) who recorded 40 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and Ukrainian point guard Platon Pashkevich (195-2004) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Geneve maintains fourth position with 18-11 record. Starwings lost twelfth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 22 games lost. Geneve will meet Lugano (#6) on the road in the next round. Starwings will play against Swiss Central (#11) in Luzern and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

SBL top team – Massagno (26-3) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Swiss Central (4-25) 102-84. Massagno dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Swiss Central’s 38. The best player for the winners was the former international Marko Mladjan (205-1993) who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). American forward Isaiah Williams (201-1992, college: Iona) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Five Massagno players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Trevion Lamar (196-1999, college: Catawba) who recorded 30 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Canadian power forward Julian Roche (211-1997, college: Simon Fraser) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively.
