As they now stand as the 2023 FIBA World Cup Global Ambassadors, Carmelo Anthony is just beyond happy to finally drop his arsenal and share a toast as war buddies with both Pau Gasol and Luis Scola for the greater good of basketball worldwide.
“I’m glad we’re not competing no more and we’re on the same side and representing the global game of basketball,” Anthony said Friday upon his formal introduction as the third global ambassador of this year’s world championship in Smart Araneta Coliseum. “So I don’t have to worry about going up against Pau and thinking about him in the gold medal game or Luis Scola down in Argentina and what they’re with those guys [like] how they want to compete with us so badly – I don’t have to think about that.”
“Now we can bond together like brothers and really grow this game of basketball the way it needs to be.”
The trio have been tangled with each other as competitors from the past not just in the NBA but also in the international arena. Amid their greatness and capabilities of bringing glory to their nation, all of them came up short on their own in clinching the coveted Naismith trophy of the FIBA World Championships.
As such, they now enjoy a common significant role in cultivating basketball, as the 2023 FIBA World Cup is slated for the much anticipated tip-off this August from the hosting rights of the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
