Experienced American Cleveland Melvin (203-F-1991) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league’s leader Start and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 31-year old forward had the game-high 30 points adding four rebounds and three assists for Start in his team’s victory, helping them to crush Prishtina (#1, 1-3) with 20-point margin 89-69. The game was between two of the league’s top four teams. It allowed Start to consolidate first place in the European North Basketball League. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost that single game earlier this season. Start has a very solid 2-1 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team’s last game Melvin had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Start’s top player in his first season with the team. De Paul University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Melvin is in league’s top in points (6th best: 16.7ppg) and averages solid 1.7bpg and 53.6% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young Polish shooting guard Dardan Berisha (190-SG-1988) of league’s best team Prishtina. Berisha impressed basketball fans with 28 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Of course he led Prishtina to another comfortable win 89-75 over Zastal (2-2) being unquestionably team leader. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let’s wait for the next round. Berisha is a newcomer at Prishtina and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders.
The third best performed player last round was Montenegrin Alen Hadzibegovic (207-F-1999, agency: BeoBasket) of top-ranked Zastal. Hadzibegovic showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of Zastal, leading his team to a 94-88 win against #1 ranked Start in a game of the week. Zastal confirms their top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 2 lost games. Hadzibegovic has a great season in European North Basketball League. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in rebounds with 8.8rpg (2nd best).
