While you’re taking inventory of your Halloween loot this morning, don’t look too long or too hard. We might have found the best piece of eye candy from yesterday already:
Yes, that’s Warriors legend Klay Thompson as Larry Legend for Halloween. Peep the caption: “Larry was saucy.”
Thompson hasn’t played in an NBA game since June 13th, 2019 in Game 6 of The NBA Finals. He suffered a torn ACL in his left knee against the Raptors and sat out the entire following season. Then, during an offseason workout a year ago, he tore his right Achilles tendon during some offseason workouts and missed all of 2020-2021 as well. He’s expected to return to practice later this month and could be back with the Warriors by December and January.
Thompson may have been a little overzealous using an ABA ball — the ABA merged with the NBA in 1976 and Larry Bird joined the Celtics in 1979 — but the short shorts are right and he definitely embodies Bird’s swagger on the court. A “sauciness,” if you will. However, the most Bird thing that Thompson has ever done may not have anything to do with his shooting prowess. Instead, let’s remember Klay for returning to the floor from the tunnel in that fateful Game 6 to hit two free throws:
Even without wearing Celtics green, that looks more like Larry Bird.
