The Milwaukee Bucks have started their title defense in good form this season, and now they will be adding a visit to the White House as the festivities continue.
The Bucks are bringing back a tradition that has been absent since 2016.
Milwaukee plans on visiting Washington D.C. on November 8.
The last team to visit the White House were the Cleveland Cavaliers after their thunderous comeback from down 3-1 against the 73-9 Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors won two more titles and did not visit, followed by the 2019 Toronto Raptors, who also did not pay a visit.
The 2020 Los Angeles Lakers also didn’t make a trip to D.C., but that was because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All of the absent visits occurred during former US President Donald Trump’s presidency.
Fans will recall when Stephen Curry feuded with #45 when they declined a visit following their next title.
That same exchange led to LeBron James calling Trump a “bum.”
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks plan on meeting with current president Joe Biden and celebrating their historic title, their first title since 1971.
While NBA teams stopped the tradition, other leagues in America continued visiting while Trump was in office.
In Major League Baseball, the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and the Washington Nationals all visited, however, some players declined to attend.
Teams in the NFL also made visits during that time, but when the Philadelphia Eagles were going to visit in 2018, the president canceled that visit following player protests in the league.
The WNBA followed suit with their brother league and did not visit the White House until 2021 when the Seattle Storm decided to celebrate their title.
The Milwaukee Bucks are off to a 3-3 start, with some impressive wins but also some tiring and sluggish losses as they look to defend their title against a league ready to take that title away from them.
