Amid their heated exchange, Devin Booker has nothing but love for Klay Thompson.
Following the Phoenix Suns’ dominant 134-105 victory over the defending champ Golden State Warriors, Booker can only admire Thompson’s fiery nature and competitive identity.
“I love Klay Thompson,” Booker told TNT’s Chris Haynes in post-game when asked about his incident with Thompson. “I have from the beginning. From the draft, coming out, I said I wanted to be Klay Thompson.
“But, that doesn’t excuse us from competing against each other and talking a little mess with each other. So I had fun with it. Big fan of his and his competitive nature, and that’s that.”
As he entered the 2015 Draft as a young hotshot guard from Kentucky, Booker has been gaining close comparisons on Thompson. As such, this recent heartwarming gesture he gave only shows the solid respect for the All-star swingman.
In third period of the Tuesday match, Both Booker and Thompson engaged in a feisty trash talk after a one-on-one play in which the Suns star was swatted away in his three-point attempt. Their heated interaction drew technical whistles from the officials.
As Thompson continued jawing against Booker, a second technical was assessed which automatically ejected the future hall of famer.
Booker went off with 34 markers and seven assists to guide the Suns on a victory. Prior to his departure from the game, Thompson meanwhile had a cold night again for the Dubs upon registering two points in a poor one-for-eight shooting for 19 minutes.
Despite this wide disparity of performance, the game recognizes the game. These two talented shooting guards will face each other again on Nov. 16 for another heavyweight bout.
