We bring you last week’s top performances from Israelis who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week’s number one is former international point guard Tamir Blatt (178-1997, currently plays in Germany). He contributed to an ALBA Berlin‘s victory against the 16th-ranked Brose Bamberg (0-2) 90-80 in the German BBL in Sunday night’s game.
Blatt recorded 8 points and added 5 assists in 21 minutes on the court.
ALBA Berlinis placed first in the BBL.
This year Blatt averages: 6.5ppg, 6.5apg, 3FGP: 27.3% in two games he played so far.
He played for the Israeli senior national team year ago.
#2. Second place goes to former international small forward Yovel Zoosman (198-1998, currently plays in Germany) is a teammate of previously mentioned Tamir Blatt. But that was another game of his team in German BBL which we would like to mention.
Zoosman managed to help ALBA Berlin to win against the ninth-ranked Hamburg Towers (1-1) 81-78.
He recorded only 4 points. It was his first game for ALBA Berlin this season.
His team is placed first in the BBL.
Zoosman has a dual citizenship: Polish and Israeli.
Former Maccabi Fox Tel-Aviv starter played for the Israeli national team in 22.
#3. The Israeli player who performed third best last week abroad was former U20 international point guard Yonatan Rabinowitz (188-1998, currently plays in Austria). He contributed to a 3-point Raiffeisen Flyers Wels‘ victory against the tenth-ranked Dukes (0-1) 80-77 in the Austrian BSL in Sunday night’s game.
Rabinowitz recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Raiffeisen Flyers Wels this season.
His team are placed sixth in the BSL.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Rabinowitz played for the Israeli U20 national team year ago.
#4. Center Gabriel Chachashvili (212-1999, currently plays in Germany). Chachashvili could not help Brose Bamberg (3-0) to beat Hakro Merlins (1-1).
He scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
The league leader Brose Bamberg was edged 84-82 on the road by the much lower-ranked Hakro Merlins (#8).
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Chachashvili’s overall stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 2.5rpg.
He used to play for the Israeli national team
back in 22.
The list of other players, who all have Israeli passport but never been selected to any of Israeli national teams:
#1. Roman Rubinshteyn (194-G/F-1996, currently plays in Belarus) could not help Impuls BGUIR (1-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Impuls BGUIR (1-2) was edged 80-79 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) Rubon in the Group A.
Rubinshteyn was the top scorer with 23 points. He also added 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 35 minutes.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Rubinshteyn has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 25.0ppg, 7.3rpg, 2.3apg and 2.0spg in three games he played so far.
Rubinshteyn has a dual citizenship: Israeli and Belarusian.
#2. Jonathan Peleg (191-G-1994, currently plays in Sweden) was the major contributor in Hogsbo‘s victory against the 11th-ranked Ockelbo (1-2) crushing them 109-69 in the Swedish Superettan (second division) last Saturday.
He scored 24 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 25 minutes.
Hogsbo Basket Goteborgis placed in the Superettan.
Peleg has very impressive stats this year: 26.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 7.0apg and 4.0spg in two games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Israeli and Swedish.
#3. Experienced Adrian Banks (191-SG-1986, college: Arkansas St., currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Treviso (0-0) in their game against Reggio Emilia (1-0) in the Italian Serie A.
Banks recorded 7 points and added 3 assists in 23 minutes. It was his first game for Treviso this season.
His team was badly defeated 78-58 at home by the lower-ranked (#3) Reggio Emilia.
Banks is a naturalized American.
He used to play for Elitzur Netanya in Israeli league.
