Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook have a history of clashing on the court when playing for opposing teams. The beef goes way back.
The two point guards became teammates after the Lakers acquired Beverley via a trade from the Jazz. There was some concern about how they can co-exist on the same team. According to Pat Bev, the two are getting on well.
“I’ve been here, I don’t know, three weeks, three weeks and a half, maybe four, and I’m just guessing, I don’t know. If I had to pick up a best friend out of a team, usually have those, it’ll be [Russell Westbrook],” he said. “Obviously I’m not saying it because you guys are right here. It’s been the truth.
“He was at my press conference. We hit the weights together and I mean not like team weight stuff. We’re in the lab 6.30 in the morning together and this was a month ago. People don’t understand that. You guys think that we have the worst relationship in the world and at time on the court, just like in a profession I know you guys don’t like each other neither.
“You guys aren’t the best co-workers against whoever the opposition is. So it’s just that same vibe. But when you get two people who love winning, two Alpha males and you put them together, it usually works. I’m super excited to see how it goes. Like any relationship, friendship, with your girl, with your homies, whatever friendships it’s a battle. In order to get to where we are going to get to, we got to be great friends. Super excited about that.”
