So far the Lakers have been unable to find a suitable deal to offload Russell Westbrook who opted into the final year of his contract earlier this offseason.
Reportedly, the main obstacle for trading the former NBA MVP is Los Angeles’ reluctance to give up their future first round picks. Things might change as training camp gets closer though.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, some think that training camp is a ‘soft deadline’ for the Lakers to trade Westbrook because at that point there will be lots of media attention to the player and questions about his future.
This past season Russ averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 34.3 minutes per game for the purple and gold.
