The Los Angeles Lakers have their sights set on reclaiming the NBA championship and Anthony Davis will be the key in that effort.
When Davis joined the Lakers back in 2019, he immediately became a reference point for the squad. Playing alongside LeBron James, he was one of the reasons the Lakers won the title in 2020.
Last season, he was dealing with injuries, especially in the second part of the season, and he wasn’t at his very best. As a result, the Lakers had an early playoff exit.
This year, the addition of Russell Westbrook created a Big-3 for the Lakers. However, the team knows that the performance of Athony Davis will determine the success.
“I didn’t feel comfortable missing that many games. Not being able to play at full strength in the playoffs against Phoenix. That didn’t sit well with me.
I made an emphasis on taking care of my body, getting my body back to what it was strength-wise my first year here,” Davis told reporters earlier in the week.
With a ball-dominant player like Westbrook in the roster, Davis knows his cooperation with the Los Angeles native will be crucial.
“One of a kind, there’s nobody like him that can do everything that he’s able to do at his size. He’s been in this league a long time. So he understands how to play the game. He knows when he needs to turn it up,” Westbrook said about Anthony Davis.
With that in mind, the Lakers will try to give playing time to both superstars in preseason to help build their chemistry. The target is for Anthony Davis and the Lakers to be ready in the season opener on October 19.
