The Dallas Mavericks have released their own statement on Thursday following the news that their former lead executive Donnie Nelson sued them for improper and unjustified job termination.
Nelson filed a lawsuit against the Mavs earlier, alleging that he was removed from the job after reporting that his nephew was sexually harassed and assaulted by a team employee way back February 2020.
Based on the reports of ESPN, Jason Lutin, the current Dallas team’s chief of staff, was accused of committing an assault and abuse to Nelson’s unnamed relative during the 2020 NBA All-star Weekend in Chicago. Allegations also have floated that owner Mark Cuban tried to offer a $52 million settlement to Nelson for the purpose to withdraw a wrongful termination claim and the signing of a non-disclosure agreement.
Both Cuban and Lutin have denied the claims of Nelson.
“Everything in that filing is a lie,” Cuban wrote to ESPN. “We did multiple complete investigations, and the only person that did not live up to the standards of the Dallas Mavericks was Mr. Nelson. He was fired as a result. He was well aware of the investigation. He refused to fully participate. I will say it again, everything he said is a lie.”
