The Sacramento Kings traded for Domantas Sabonis at the deadline, hoping to balance out their roster and push for a play-in berth. The Kings are unlikely to make the playoffs as they are 20 games under .500 and five games out of 10 in the loss column.
Sabonis was asked by Sam Amick of The Athletic if it felt like a good time for a fresh start in leaving the Indiana Pacers for the Kings, and if he was hoping to be traded.
“Um, I’m going to represent any team that’s on my back,” said Sabonis. “That’s who I am. If I would have stayed, it would have been awesome. But now that I’m here, I’m very happy.
Sabonis has two seasons remaining on his contract and was asked if the Kings are a fit for him in the long-term.
“I’m excited,” said Sabonis. I’m excited about the whole journey. It sucks that we have that (playoff) drought, but the fact that we can be part of something that can turn it around, you know, that’s the goal. Come in and change the perspective of this organization and what people think. We’re excited that we can be part of that and build it, you know? So I want to stay as long as I can. Everything has to go well, (but) I’m happy here. It’s awesome. The fans are great. I’m excited to see us do good.”
